The incredible team at @foodetcbedford are helping people of all ages build confidence and independence in the kitchen one delicious meal at a time 🧑‍🍳

We were very lucky to recently attend a brilliant session where Julie and her team teach lifelong cookery skills, plus showing the kids how to whip up the most delicious homemade chicken nuggets with just a handful of ingredients. No UPFs in sight here.

The team at Food etc work tirelessly hard to empower people in the community to make better food choices by teaching them how to cook inexpensive, delicious and nutritious meals from scratch and we feel very proud to partner with them 🥑

Shout it louder for the people in the back….WONKY FRUIT & VEG TASTES JUST AS GOOD 🥑🔥

At Holy Moly, we love a wonky avo. It’s what goes into our guac and smashed avocado, because it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

So much perfectly good produce gets overlooked just because it’s a bit “imperfect” and that’s a huge part of the food waste problem.

Today’s easy WFH lunch: Spicy Salmon Bowl
Save this for later👇
- marinate some cubed salmon with Tracklements fiery and fresh Chilli Jam and soy sauce before pan frying on medium heat till crispy
- in a bowl add cooked coconut rice, chopped cherry tomatoes, chopped cucumber and some pickled cabbage
- add a couple of generous scoops of Holy Moly Smashed Avocado
- drizzle either Rubies in the Rubble ketchup or their Garlic Mayo - both absolute winners
- top with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and serve with a cold glass of refreshing Daily Dose juice

We put the team’s food waste knowledge to the test with a quick true or false quiz 🥑

Food waste is something close to our hearts. In the UK alone, around 50,000 tonnes of avocados are wasted every year, and 25% of the avocados bought end up in the bin (we see you, avocado lottery 👀).

It’s one of the reasons we love our Smashed Avocado so much…no faff trying to find the perfect avocado, just guaranteed deliciousness 💚

Food waste isn’t just bad for the planet, it’s expensive too. According to WRAP, the food thrown away in the UK that could have been eaten would fill 3,500 Olympic-sized swimming pools and is worth around £15 billion every year.

But, the good news is that small changes make a big difference. Planning meals, getting creative with leftovers, and using up those “seen better days” veggies can save you money and help the planet 🌍

Why do we source our avocados from Mexico? 🇲🇽

Because sunshine, rich volcanic soil and generations of expertise = seriously good guac 💚🥑

During B Corp Month, we’re celebrating what it really means to put people and the planet first. As a proud certified B Corp, we partner with farmers in Mexico to grow avocados sustainably and fairly. We give the “wonky” avos a starring role in our products 🥑 just because an avo doesn’t look perfect on the outside doesn’t mean it’s not a total beauty on the inside. By using fruit that might otherwise be overlooked, we’re helping tackle food waste from the very beginning.

Our Guacamole and Smashed Avocado are made at source, then shipped (never air-freighted) to the UK 🙅‍♀️✈️ It’s about doing things thoughtfully, reducing unnecessary steps, and always looking for better ways to lower our impact.

Being a B Corp means we hold ourselves to the highest standards to do good for the world, whether that’s how we source to how we ship, and being committed to keep improving and being a force for good.

This month the Holy Moly team are stepping up for a challenge...walking 70km each by the end of March.

Why 70km? Because the average person in the UK wastes around 70kg of food every year. That’s roughly 140 meals!

Reducing food waste is something high on our agenda. Our Guacamole and Smashed Avo are made at source in Mexico, meaning the skins and stones are left behind, reducing unnecessary transportation. Those leftovers are then turned into avocado oil, so nothing goes to waste.

With Food Waste Action Week and B Corp Month in full swing, we’re using this challenge to raise awareness - and funds - for our charity partner @foodetcbedford.

If the whole team reaches the 70km target by the end of March, we’ll make a donation to support Food etc’s work teaching people how to cook nutritious, affordable meals from scratch, including how to turn leftovers into something delicious instead of binning them.
